Organising an Accessible Event

Do you regularly attend events and enjoy networking with other delegates or do you find it difficult to make eye contact and start up a conversation?

Open Eyed Guide to Organising an Accessible Event e-book

We enjoy attending many events across the country. Some we attend as delegates and some we contribute as speakers and trainers. We regularly find that even the best events could usually be made more inclusive and our experience says other disabled people feel the same.

I wrote this guide for anyone who regularly or occasionally organises events or meetings of any size.

When I attend events where accessibility has been considered I invariably have a positive experience and form a great impression of the organisation. Research tells us that most people will rate your event on how they were treated so the guide focuses on practical ideas and suggestions so you can plan, promote and deliver an accessible event.

The guide has sections on communicating with disabled people and the language of disability as well as sections on your legal obligations.

We organise events and know that when you think inclusively it just becomes a natural part of the process of putting on a first class, inclusive event. This guide will help you to do just that.”
